Here’s what’s new with the 2022 Acura MDX, now in Canada

With an intuitive fourth-generation redesign, the largely anticipated 2022 Acura MDX has arrived at Canadian dealerships, marking a new highlight to the model’s 20 year history.

The 2022 Acura MDX, now available at Policaro Acura, is full of the premium and performance you’d expect in a flagship vehicle. But an elevated exterior redesign and several new technologies accompanying its sophisticated interior are far from the only modifications to the 2022 MDX.

Here’s what sets the 2022 Acura MDX apart from the outgoing 2020 MDX model:

First and foremost is the all-new, ultra-rigid platform underpinning the MDX, providing a solid base for the sizable SUV, which is 55.1 millimetres longer, 11 mm taller and 25 mm wider than its predecessor. That extra stretch in all directions translates to a full 10 per cent increase to cargo space!

Acura has also significantly stiffened the suspension (a full 45 per cent) thanks to a brand-first double-wishbone front suspension paired with a multilink rear suspension. The combined features of all-new belt-driven Electric Power Steering for more direct response and better braking performance make for a comfortable ride with improved collision safety.

Now in its fourth-generation, the rear-biased Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system has 40 per cent more rear torque capacity and 30 per cent faster front-to-rear torque transfer on the MDX compared to its previous generation.

For the 2022 model year, the brand added friction-reducing technologies to help boost fuel efficiency and power output on the returning 3.5-litre direct-injected i-VTEC V6 engine, offering 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. That engine will be under all four hoods of all 2022 trims, including MDX, Technology, A-Spec and Platinum Elite.

And come summer, drivers will be able to opt for the Type S, which boasts a 3.0L V6 turbocharged engine making 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque and wears larger, low-profile tires mounted on 21-inch rims and backed by four-piston Brembo brake calipers up front.

Visually, the newest MDX takes a more athletic stance, leaning into the dominant look with a redesigned front fascia, grille and cab rearward proportion that allows for an extra 150 mm of dash-to-front-axle distance. A sophisticated and premium cabin comfortably seats seven passengers and is accented by a horizontal design theme and strong structural feel.

Acura boosted material quality this time around as well, hand-wrapping the instrument panel and using high-grade materials like open-pore wood, Milano leather and brushed aluminum to lend to the SUV an aesthetic befitting its flagship status. There’s also more room inside, including 10 mm more headroom and 60 mm more legroom in the rear, third row, which sits 50 mm higher.

The driver-centric cockpit features a new 12.3-inch True Touchpad Interface, part of the all-digital Acura Precision Cockpit replacing physical gauges. Able to convey driver information in two distinct and customizable Advanced and Crafted appearances, the display also includes a customizable content selection for functions such as navigation, trip computer, AcuraWatch, maintenance, tire pressure, SH-AWD® status and a G-meter.
