2022 Acura MDX SH-AWD

Meet Acura’s new flagship SUV, the 2022 MDX

For the first time in the company’s history, Acura has positioned a sport utility vehicle, the thoroughly redesigned 2022 MDX, as their flagship model. It’s a title that fits the MDX’s sophisticated and bold redesign. Here’s why:

Advanced, driver-focused technology and an atmospheric cosmetic remodeling are far from the whole package features of the 2022 MDX. The fourth-generation model builds on the legacy of the MDX name with an all-new platform, a powerful engine and superior driving capabilities complemented by a luxuriously, sporty design inside and out.

The MDX’s new platform features its first-ever double-wishbone front suspension for incredible road handling paired with an all-new multilink rear suspension. With enhancements to platform rigidity credited to a new rigidity-mounted front subframe, the MDX is a stable, silent drive with an improved tire contact patch on the standard 19-inch wheels for increased handling through demanding corners. Braking performance improves on the 2022 MDX thanks to 30mm larger and 2mm thicker front braking rotors and a new electric brake booster that can better withstand hard stops without reducing vehicle performance.

The new belt-driven Electic Power Steering creates a natural, smooth steering feel that complements the MDX’s precise handling. Assisted by a high-output electric motor for a quicker steering ratio, the MDX offers agile low-speed maneuverability for urban settings and high-speed stability for high-speed highway travel. Standard on the MDX is the advanced 3.5-litre direct-injected i-VTEC V6 engine with an output of 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. A range of friction-reducing technologies within the powertrain boosts power output and fuel efficiency. The Type S, scheduled to release in late summer is set to feature a 355-hp turbocharged 3.0L V6 with 354 lb-ft of torque.

The MDX’s performance output is supported by a revamped, fourth generation version of Acura’s Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive system, on the 10-Speed Automatic Transmission. Modified for greater rear axle bias, as much as 70 per cent of torque can be distributed rearward, on top of a 30 per cent increase in speed in altering front-to-rear torque distribution. The MDX can additionally vector all of that torque to the rear wheel that has the most traction. A control knob on the centre of the dash enables the MDX’s Integrated Dynamics System with Snow, Comfort, Normal, Sport and Individual settings, all adjustable on the go, each offering unique engine and transmission settings.

In addition to the mechanical performance updates, Acura puts forward an instinctive, “driver focused” cabin with spacious room for seven passengers, outstanding audio and safety additions and intuitive Precision Cockpit Digital Instrumentation. Open-pore wood, brushed aluminum and Milano leather deliver a sophisticated cabin aesthetic complimented by a hand-wrapped instrument panel complete with a 12.3-inch customizable True Touchpad Interface display. The MDX will be available in six interior colour designs, including Ebony, Parchment, Greystone and Saddle Brown, while A-Spec models will be available exclusively in either Ebony or Red leather with black Ultrasuede inserts.

The 2022 Acura MDX will arrive in Canadian dealerships including Policaro Acura in February 2021.
